You can not travel to Yazd and Meybod provinces and miss visiting the Shah Abbasi Meybod caravanserai. This caravanserai was renovated in 2002 and welcomes tourists as the Zillow Museum.
The old caravanserai of Shah Abbasi, which is located on Ghazi Mir Hossein Boulevard in Meybod, was built during the Qajar period and remained faithful to the Safavid style, and for this reason it is known as Shah Abbasi. This building seems to have been formed on the site of an older caravanserai.
Meybod Caravanserai has a large central courtyard, porch, entrance porch, basin, moonlight, porch and a large number of rooms. There is also a printing press, a traditional refrigerator and a water storage. These characteristics show that this is not only the resting place of caravans, but in its time it was considered one of the best road complexes in the country.
Shah Abbasi Meybod Caravanserai has a rectangular structure, is made of bricks and is built in the style of four porches. You can see 24 rooms in its courtyard, but considering the interior rooms, a total of 100 rooms have been designed in it.
In the center of the courtyard, there is an octagonal pool in which the water of the aqueduct flows. The printing house is also located next to the caravanserai.
The date 1070 is written on the inscription at the entrance of Ab Anbar, which probably refers to the year of construction of the caravanserai. In various writings, several names are seen for the founder of the caravanserai. One of the possibilities is that Mohammad Vali Mirza is the founder of Meybod Caravanserai. He was the son of Fath Ali Shah and the ruler of Yazd. Mohammad Vali Mirza has built other caravanserais in this area.
Shah Abbasi Meybod Caravanserai, which was nationally registered in 1978, has now been renovated and can be visited. The Meybod Cultural Heritage Office, the Documentation Center Library, the Zillow and Plus Museum, and the traditional restaurant and café are located in this inn.
The first and only Zillow Museum in the country has attracted the attention of many art lovers and tourists. This museum is in the category of specialized museums of the Cultural Heritage Organization and has exhibited old and new zillows.
Fifty old zillow boards are on display in the museum, collected from various locations. The oldest of them was woven in 785 AH with the design of an altar and its weaver is Ali Bid Ibn Haji Meybodi. The second category is new xylos that are woven in small sizes. An interesting part of the museum is the xylobafi and karbafi workshop where you can see the weavers working.
After touring the grounds of the Shah Abbasi Caravanserai and seeing the valuable works of the Zillow Museum, you can visit the traditional restaurant of the complex. Meybod Caravanserai Restaurant has been able to provide relative customer satisfaction; Most families choose this restaurant to take advantage of the historical atmosphere of the caravanserai and create lasting memories for themselves.
